February 18—Today is Yoko Ono’s Birthday–
Happy birthday, Yoko! Peace and Love to you.
One of the many wonderful birthday wishes is this one, from Nat Foreman–a recipe for a dishful of snow—
Reports today in Texas of people carrying buckets of snow for water, as the power outages continue. People are really suffering. This is a humanitarian crisis! And a climate crisis.
There are chunks of ice floating down the Mississippi river near Memphis.
Today, Chicago gets a dusting–an additional 1 or 2 inches of lake-effect snow, after the Presidents Day snowstorm that brought over 17 inches to Midway, and over 18 inches to Oak Park and Evanston. We are way above the yearly average of 36 inches for Chicago—
According to NWS Chicago– “In the past 34 days, more than 20″ of snow has fallen at all of our official climate sites. Near Midway Airport, nearly 50 inches of snow has fallen. The past 21 days is the snowiest 3-week period in Chicago since the 1978-1979 winter!”
The snow after the storm was like a new world—–no pathways, no roads. The sky was dazzling blue. Now, we have canyons for walkways, and mountains at the corners, and the cardinal singing, “Pretty, pretty, pretty! “
