Are Carbohydrates Bad for You?

There is debate whether carbohydrates are good or bad for you. If carbohydrates were a person or a corporation, they would need to hire a publicist to change their image. There are three types of carbohydrates. The three types are sugar, starch, and fiber. Sugar is the basic form of carbohydrates and is found naturally in some foods including fruits, vegetables, and milk. Both starch and fiber are considered complex carbohydrates. They are formed by many sugar units bonding together. Starch occurs naturally in vegetables, grains, beans, and peas. Fiber occurs naturally in fruits, vegetables, wholes grains, beans, and peas.
There are healthy carbohydrates and the type of carbohydrates you eat will determine the impact on your body. Yes, there are some carbohydrates you should avoid or consume in small amounts. Food manufacturers add carbohydrates to processed foods in the form of starch or added sugar. The processed foods with unhealthy carbohydrates include sugary drinks, white bread, cookies, cake, ice cream, candy, potato chips, cereal, and French fries. I know some of your favorite foods are on the list. Please consider consuming large amounts of these type of foods can increase the risk of health issues including diabetes, heart disease, and obesity.
Vegetables, fruits, beans, whole grains, seeds, and nuts are good carbohydrates and provide health benefits. Healthy carbohydrates provide energy, helps with weight loss, and lower your risk of chronic diseases. You want to eat foods in their natural state. Try to avoid processed foods. Consider using a food journal which will allow you to see the type of foods you are consuming. This will give you an idea of any adjustments you need to make.
