The Chicago Bears have learned well that some former stars may still have plenty of juice left in the tank.
When the Bears went out and signed tight end Jimmy Graham last offseason, most of the fan base was in an uproar. The contract was too expensive and Graham was well past his prime. In fact, he looked done in Green Bay last year.
Even Cordarrelle Patterson’s best days may have been behind him prior to the Bears signing him a couple of years ago. But, both he and Graham have proved they still have a lot of football left in them. Patterson has earned All Pro honors while Graham became a legitimate red zone threat in 2020.
This offseason, the Bears have some major issues to work on; namely, the quarterback position. They could end up going with a veteran via trade or drafting a rookie in April. But, free agency doesn’t have a ton of options to offer.
As for other positions, free agency will make things interesting. There are some big names hitting the market this year, and some of them are guys who have enjoyed superstar careers for the most part.
Money could be an issue for the Bears this offseason, as they have to figure out not only the quarterback position bu also how to re-sign Allen Robinson. If they don’t have a ton of money to work with in free agency, some of these former superstars could make sense, as they will come a bit cheaper.
