Chicago Bears’ Justin Fields can provide the Giants some regretRyan Heckmanon December 28, 2021 at 2:45 pm

Back in April when the Chicago Bears held the no. 20 overall pick, fans were desperately waiting to watch them move up. After all, the team had moved on from Mitchell Trubisky and were searching for their franchise quarterback.

As the first few picks of the opening round went by, the Bears looked like they would be in position for a move up — and finally, at no. 11, it happened.

The Bears moved up with the New York Giants to snag Ohio State’s Justin Fields — and the rest, as they say, is history. Fields became a Bear and the fan base roared — quite literally — with excitement.

Now, Fields likely gets to take on the team which helped the Bears acquire him on Sunday afternoon. So long as he is healthy (and he should be), the rookie will have an opportunity to show the Giants what they passed on.

Justin Fields and the Chicago Bears are playing for pride in somewhat of a prove-it game with the Giants in Week 17.

The Giants rode Daniel Jones another year in 2021 and, as it was reported just a day ago, it looks like they are going to ride with Jones for one more season in 2022. With the 2022 NFL Draft class not looking as strong at the quarterback position, the Giants could feel like Jones is their best bet to be competitive next season.

However, they will likely end up with two picks in the top 10, so don’t rule out the possibility of them giving Jones some competition.

For now, Fields gets an opportunity to face a Giants defense that sits in the middle of the pack in terms of their passing defense, giving up 238 yards per game through the air. New York is coming off a game in which they held Jalen Hurts to just seven yards rushing, however.

Fields has rushed for 420 yards on the season, and this is where he makes some of his biggest plays — with his legs.

The Giants have given up over 24 points per game this season, which would look like a phenomenal game for a Bears offense that has only managed 17.7 points per game this season.

Fields’ rookie season has been far from perfect, as he’s taken some bad sacks and had issues with ball security. But, this game is an important one. It’s only his second-to-last game of his rookie season. It’s a chance to truly show he’s learned a lot this year and, more importantly, prove to the Giants that they made the wrong decision allowing him to go to Chicago.
