Magic from Jonathan Toews lifts the Chicago Blackhawks to victory yet again.

The Chicago Blackhawks were in heavy danger of going into game four with a 2-1 series deficit and facing elimination. Then, some old school Blackhawks magic came to the forefront and it was so much fun to watch. First, Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl were responsible for the Edmonton Oilers leading the game by a score of 3-2. The one-goal lead went well into the third period before the fourth line got it done as Matthew Highmore got the goal to tie the game.

What happened from there was very magical yet it felt very familiar. Jonathan Toews tipped in a Connor Murphy blast to give the Hawks a 4-3 lead with 1:16 left in the third period. It was the captain’s fourth goal of the playoffs. He always has shown up when it matters most and this strange season is no different.

Now, the Hawks take the Oilers into game four with a chance to eliminate them on Friday night. It is not going to be easy but you have to feel like that was a major heartbreaker for that team. It has to be especially hard for their two stars who have worked so hard to try and have their team on their back. They were the NHL’s two leading scorers in 2019-20 and have scored eight of Edmonton’s 13 goals this series. They can’t play defense or play in a depth role so it is sad for them but awesome for the Hawks.

One note that is worth mentioning is the play of Kirby Dach. He literally looks like he is eight feet tall out there at times. The teenager has been brilliant in these playoffs. It is so clear that he has taken the pause to work on his craft and it is noticeable. He has four assists in this series. He is still looking for his first career playoff goal but he has been great at making everyone around him better. Hopefully, the kid can keep this up.

Well, the Hawks have a chance to bury Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers on Friday night. It would be a major upset but nobody should be surprised that this core is making it interesting. If they are able to get the job done, that says a lot about this team and how lucky Chicago is to have a resilient group like this.
