Chicago Craft Beer Weekend, February 4-6
Apparently, when Hop Butcher for the World was negotiating to buy Half Acre’s Lincoln Ave. tap room and brewery, they was also negotiating with 5 Rabbit Cerveceria. This week, the Tribune’s Josh Noel reports that Hop Butcher has closed on a deal for 5 Rabbit’s production brewery in Bedford park. Hop Butcher has already been brewing at the Bedford facility, and hope to have a taproom opened by fall. 5 Rabbit, meanwhile, is working on a space at 19th and Sangamon in the Pilsen neighborhood, with hopes to open in the summer.
There is a bit of good news to report from the west. Carlyle Brewing Co., which anchored downtown Rockford since it opened in 2003, has re-opened. The brewpub was closed in June by its owner and brewmaster Jim Carlyle. There has been a change of heart, and the place reopened on Groundhog Day. WIFR
