The Chicago Cubs are in the middle of a hot streak. They have played well lately despite their roster not being very good. We all know by now about how they traded Anthony Rizzo, Javier Baez, and Kris Bryant at the trade deadline earlier this year. It has been tough for them in 2021 but things could turn around quickly if they do things the right way.

In the meantime, they still have to finish this season. That means that they have to host the San Francisco Giants at Wrigley Field this weekend. That means that Kris Bryant will make his return to Wrigley for the first time since the trade. Javier Baez and the Mets won’t be coming back to Chicago this season and Anthony Rizzo missed his series against the Chicago White Sox thanks to a COVID-19 diagnosis.

This is the only chance this season for Cubs fans to see one of these guys in their stadium again. Bryant meant a lot to the Cubs as he helped them win a World Series for the first time in 108 years. He made the game-winning play to finally end the curse. That resume also has a Rookie of the Year and MVP on it as well.

The Cubs will probably make a nice little video for Bryant and he will have a great standing ovation from the Wrigley Field crowd. He deserves it for everything that happened since he showed up. It may not have ended like anyone wanted it to but it can certainly move forward in a positive direction.

All of this is going to be nice and sweet for Bryant but this is a huge series for his San Francisco Giants. They have won four games in a row and lead the NL West by 2.5 games over the Los Angeles Dodgers who have lost two in a row. This race is going to go until the very end. If the Giants can take care of business against the Cubs, they will be in really good shape for their division.

Whoever loses out for the division between the Giants and Dodgers will play in the one-game Wild Card. That will most likely be against either the San Diego Padres, Cincinnati Reds, or St. Louis Cardinals. Nobody wants any part of that if they can help it. Expect a largely motivated Giants team to roll in. It will be nice to see the Cubs honor Bryant for everything he meant to them but it will be strictly business after that.
