It wasn’t easy, but the Cubs were able to take three of five from the Cardinals. A series that featured two doubleheaders and a couple of dramatic David Bote hits. Chicago’s offense has hit a rough patch as the bullpen has steadily improved.
The Cubs now welcome the crosstown White Sox to Wrigley for three games. The slugging Sox crushed the Tigers in a four-game sweep led by the red-hot Tim Anderson. The young Eloy Jimenez, Yoan Moncada, and Luis Robert mesh well with veteran Jose Abreu.
Lucas Giolito and Dallas Keuchel anchor a pretty good starting rotation. The bullpen has some holes, but closer Alex Colome has been lights out. At 15-11, the Sox have a legit shot at the playoffs and the talent to do it.
The Cubs need their big bats to show up this series. Ian Happ can’t carry them all season long. Chicago baseball is on fire; should be a fun weekend.
