I was accepted into National Louis University last year and am now halfway done with my Master’s Degree! Ever since I took my first psychology class in high school, I have always had an interest in understanding why people do the things they do and what drives them. After becoming a mother to three daughters and then teaching in the early childhood field for almost twenty years, that inquisitiveness has deepened even more. I wrote in my personal statement for the application that “Dreams may go out of focus; however, they never truly go away.” I have wanted to attain my Master’s degree ever since I got my Bachelor’s degree; I just wanted a break first. That time off has turned into 35 years, but I am doing it now. I value education, and I consider myself a life-long learner whether learning through school, experiences, or reflection. This is one of many dreams I have had since I was young just like becoming a mother, traveling, and writing a book. Turning my dreams into goals and then making them reality has been an exciting yet challenging process at times. It is difficult some weeks to keep up with the reading and papers while working full-time, but I am so happy to be reaching for this goal. I am not sure where this will lead me, but I learned long ago that opportunities and life are unpredictable, in good ways as well as in bad. All I know is that this is a dream that I am so happy to be making a reality. There are still other dreams on my list since dreams really never go away even if I lose focus on them for a while. I want others to see me reaching and striving, so they know that they can create a life of their own making.
