F9 has everything the Fast and Furious franchise promises, fast cars, equal opportunity fight scenes, unbelievable stunts, and laugh-out-loud moments.
F9 gives us a look into Dom Toretto’s (Vin Diesel’s) past. We learn of his and his little brother Jakob’s life at the racetrack as part of their dad’s crew. Something happens that tears the brothers apart.
Many years later Dom, his son “Little” Brian, and Letty are living off the grid on a remote farm. We all know that is not going to last. He receives an offer he can’t refuse when he realizes his estranged brother Jakob (John Cena) is leading a plot to take over the world.
The crew is back together, and in trying to stop Jakob from completing his plot, Dom faces the truth about some things he has been holding to.
I had fun watching this film. I’m not sure if I would have enjoyed it as much if Tyrese Gibson and Chris “Ludacris” Bridges weren’t in it. They work off each other so well. In fact, Tyrese’s character addresses the question we have all asked, “how can they fight like they do and not get seriously hurt?”
It only made sense that Justin Lin would return as director, based on the success, he brought the franchise with the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth chapters of the series.
While Vin Diesel and John Cena are great with action scenes when it comes to emotional acting they sometimes aren’t as believable. Justin Lin’s decision to cast Vinnie Bennett as the young Dom and Finn Coles as his younger brother Jakob was the right thing to do. They brought the right emotions to the dynamic. Lin also added some new characters played by Bow Wow and Cardi B. Hilarious.
I give F9 4 out of 5 winks of the EYE!
Until next time, keep your EYE to the sky!
