Looking for the Good
Gone walking again
I decided to start walking every day again. In 2020, I walked 22 minutes every day, for a total of 150 minutes weekly. In 2021, I decided to try 30 minutes every day. It was a little more challenging to find 30 minutes to do it versus just 22. I know that is only 8 minutes more, but for me, it just seemed harder. I was doing great until I moved in October. I was packing and hauling boxes, so I justified that I was getting my steps in. A quick look at my health app on my phone shows I am averaging 2,446 steps a day, which is pretty low. They say that 10,000 steps, or roughly 5 miles a day, is not really necessary, but I know that 2,000 is not enough. I read that even 7,000 steps a day can strengthen your bones and muscles, improve cardiovascular fitness, decease your chance of certain conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure, and even lower rates of mortality. Shouldn’t those reasons alone get me out of my chair and out for a walk? I know that walking and being in nature is great for my mental health as well. Can I give myself the gift of 22 minutes a day? I won’t even pressure myself to walk fast, just a stroll for now. I know that I need routines; I need habits and expectations. I walked yesterday, and I am setting a goal again of 22 minutes a day even if I need to walk in place or in circles in my apartment. Moving my body is a form of self-love and care. Can I show myself love? Can I take better care of the one and only body I have? Do you have a routine or plan in place to get your body moving? Join me, we can worry about eating healthy next month…

All through my day, no matter where I go, or what I do, I am always looking for the good in people, in the world, in my life or even just in my day.

While it is easy to focus on the negative aspects of life, I choose to continue looking for the good in people and in the world around me, and I want to share why they do what they do. I am the proud mother of three adult daughters and live in the Chicago area. I have worked in the Early Childhood Education field since 2001, and I write books when the inspiration comes.
