Grab a Growler at Motor Row Brewing
During this time of quarantine and self-distancing, there are still ways to help local breweries. I visited Motor Row Brewing before this dreadful crisis kicked in, but let me begin by sharing that the brewery will continue to sell growlers from 12-1 pm Monday through Friday. The staff suggests calling before you head over at 312-624-8149.
My Visit
I found myself yearning for a brewery that I haven’t been to in a different locale, namely on the south side. A Google search led me to Motor Row Brewing in the historic Motor Row District (hence the name).
The brewery is in an attractive, landmark building complete with green trim. One would be hard-pressed to miss it at night due to the beer sign illuminated in the second-floor windows. Upon entering, the brewery is at the street level and an elevator will whisk you to the second-floor taproom, which is pet friendly.
A Comfortable, Stylish Taproom
The taproom is smallish but loaded with character including exposed brick and vintage auto images. Food isn’t served; however, you can bring your own (they make it easy for you). There is also an on-site popcorn machine for popcorn lovers.
Beer Offerings
Motor Row offers eight delectable taps with a variety of styles to choose from. I started with a Speed Demon, which is a limited release Imperial/Double Stout brewed with coffee and cocoa nibs. This is an easy-drinking beer with coffee notes. I went in a different direction with my next beer, choosing a Dry Humor Belgian Honey Blonde. The honey was prominent but not overbearing in this refreshing ale.
Once this heinous Corona Virus takes flight, check out Motor Row Brewing in person for some tasty beverages and camaraderie. In the meantime, fill up a growler, because beer is necessary now more than ever.

My greatest passion is street art. I’m constantly pounding the pavement in search of murals with eyes wide open, so follow me on my colorful journey. View all my findings on Instagram @sherlovesstreetart.
Another passion is beer. I consider myself a beer snob with a preference given to stouts and porters. I’m always willing to try new styles because beer is life. Prost!
