Head to State Street for summer fun at Sundays on State
Sundays on State (that great Street) kicks off tomorrow, Sunday, July 11 between 1-5pm.
The free admission summer festival will close the street to traffic from Lake to Madison on select Sundays throughout the summer.
The fest will resemble a giant community block party featuring food, performances, family activities and more than 70 on-street activations.
In addition retail, bars, restaurants, and local attractions including Gene Siskel Film Center (who will be offering $1 popcorn in front of their theatre at 164 N. State) will participate.
Highlights include
- American Writers Museum – writing activations including typewriters for attendees to use, their My America: Immigrant and Refugee Writers Today exhibit with luggage tags for attendees to write their family’s immigration story, and their Word Play exhibit with mad-lib and magnetic poetry games.
- CircEsteem – circus performance including an aerial rig.
- Family-ism Face Paint Factory – professional face painting and a photo backdrop for selfies.
- The Joffrey Ballet – Academy students will perform two to three dance pieces, and the Community Engagement Extension program students will perform three dance pieces.
