This week, we have started to see some teams around the league make decisions that will affect the remaining two games on the season. The Chicago Bears are no different.
Head coach Matt Eberflus has confirmed that Justin Fields will remain the starting quarterback for Weeks 17 and 18, even though the team has little to play for. Eberflus wants to continue getting good looks at his franchise quarterback and play to win football games.
Other teams, however, are already starting to look toward the future.
One such team is the Las Vegas Raiders, who made a bold decision on Wednesday. Head coach Josh McDaniels has decided to bench quarterback Derek Carr for the team’s final two games in favor of the younger Jarrett Stidham. Not only that, but Carr will be inactive for those two games.
If the Raiders are making this move, it likely means they will cut ties with Carr this coming offseason. By letting him go, the Raiders save roughly $29 million against the cap.
They would then be a team likely in on one of the top rookie quarterbacks this coming draft, such as Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud, Will Levis or Anthony Richardson.
If that’s the case, then Vegas could be totally stripping it down. Does that mean Davante Adams is on the block after just one year with his former college quarterback?
Don’t count out that possibility. The Raiders could also lose Josh Jacobs to free agency, thus giving them more reason to commit to a rebuild. Adams very well might be dealt in exchange for, oh, let’s say… the number two overall pick, and then some?
The Bears are headed for the number two overall selection at this rate, if not the number one pick should the Texans lose one more game.
The veteran wide receiver’s connection to the Bears comes by way of offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, who spent his time previously with the Packers, like Adams.
Getsy has been given much praise this year as he’s helped Justin Fields break out, but the one thing the offense has lacked is a real playmaker at wide receiver.
Look no further than Adams, who still has plenty of football left in him. Should the Raiders enter a full rebuild, then the possibility of Adams to Chicago becomes very real.
