I’ve Got The Hippy Shakes
It’s 2020 and it’s time for a mental health tune-up
I’m a big believer in therapy. Where else can you find a place where someone will let you vent about the problems in your life for an hour without judging you? Hell, after writing that sentence, I should be looking for a therapist I can talk to daily.
2020 has been hard. If it was only the election, that would have been enough stress to look for a mental health professional. Add in the pandemic and I’m surprised the entire population of the United States isn’t running to their nearest clinic. Hmmm…maybe they are because the first four clinics that were recommended to me weren’t accepting new clients.
I finished my undergrad course of therapy in 2016. It took three hard years and three different therapists to get that degree. Parkinson’s, Melanoma and homelessness is a tough curriculum. When you add electives on fear of death and lack of trust issues, I’m surprised it didn’t take double the time.
But, it felt like three years was enough. I believe that you should do the work and move on. Why keep going if you aren’t accomplishing anything new? I was ready to face the world on my own, but what happens if that doesn’t work out? I had a chat with a friend who’s a therapist. She said, “See how it goes. If you need some help later, find someone for a mental health tune-up.”
Good advice and my therapist at the time agreed.
Well kids, it’s four years later and in 2020, it’s now tune-up time. I found my mechanic who is going to help do the work. Actually, I’m pretty sure this will be more than a tune-up. We may be headed for a full engine overhaul, but that’s okay. These are tough times and a person needs to do whatever is needed to make themself feel better and healthy.
The only thing that is really surprising about this is that it took so long to do this. A lot of the same issues that are there now were present earlier in the year. Oh well…better late than never, right? And remember, when it comes to mental health, it’s never too late!

Meet The Blogger
Howard Moore
My so called friends think it’s time to edit this section. After four years, they may be right, but don’t tell them that. I’ll deny it until they die!
I can’t believe I’ve been writing this blog for four years.
It started as a health/wellness thing and over the years has morphed to include so many things that I don’t know how to describe it anymore.
I really thought this was going to be the final year of the blog but then Donald Trump came along. It looks like we’re good for four more years..God help us all!
Oh yeah…the biographical stuff. I’m not 60 anymore. The rest you can read about in the blog. -
