They started the season as the number one and number two ranked college basketball team. Gonzaga number one, Baylor right behind them in the two spot. Their early-season matchup was rightly hyped as the game of the year. It was canceled due to Covid-19…damn pandemic!

Those pre-season ratings held up. Gonzaga went undefeated. Baylor did for most of the year until Covid again caught up with them. They had a couple of late season blips, but still maintained a number one seed going into the tournament.

When the big dance got started and all the early upsets kept everyone’s interest, who advanced easily, Gonzaga and Baylor. We made it to the final four and who were the two top seeds to advance, Gonzaga and Baylor. We’re down to the final game and who is left, Gonzaga and Baylor.

The game that we pined to see in December is happening tonight. What makes it even better is everything is on the line. For more than three months, Gonzaga looked unbeatable. They were being mentioned with the all-time greats of the sport. They have three all-Americans in their lineup. You might be able to stop one, but how can you shut down all of them in a single game? But, then UCLA showed that maybe they weren’t as perfect a team as everyone made them out to be. Hmmmm…..if the Bruins can do that, surely the Baylor Bears, a much more talented group, can do the same thing.

And that’s what we are going to find out tonight. Can Baylor continue to make their three point shots that are such a big part of their game? Can their defense keep Suggs, Timme and Kispert from running them out of the gym? Can Gonzaga be the first undefeated team in forty-five years and go down in history with the Indiana’s and UCLA’s? So many great questions and story lines will be answered in a few hours.

Final score will be: Gonzaga 87-Baylor 80….but what do I know?
