About 2:40 a.m., he was walking with a group of people in the 7000 block of South Merrill Avenue, when someone inside a black minivan fired shots at them, Chicago police said.
He was struck in the abdomen and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, police said.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office has not yet identified the man.
