Paging Dr. Charles. We’re going to need some help processing the finales of One Chicago. A production halt has been called on NBC’s Chicago Med, Fire, and P.D. in response to the coronavirus pandemic. The shows will air their season finales on Wednesday, April 15th.
In February, NBC confirmed that the One Chicago triad was renewed for three more seasons. But until then, we’ve got three nail-biting conclusions to watch unfold.
Chicago Med will air its season 5 finale at 8/7c. The season closer is entitled “A Needle in the Heart,” and appears as tense as ever. The promo features Ethan crossing a police line and finding himself looking down the barrel of a gun while trying to save a hostage. Back at the hospital, a few detectives show up to question Crockett about his past. All of this wouldn’t be complete with some relationship drama. We’ll see April’s complicated story unfold, Marcel and Natalie’s relationship evolve, and Dr. Charles encourage his youngest daughter.
Then we’ll see Chicago Fire season 8 come full circle. The season ends the same way it began: Chicago Firehouse 51 going headfirst into danger. The promo shows the team investigating a gas leak when something suddenly goes wrong. The episode entitled “51’s Original Bell” will also give us a glimpse into the future of Foster’s career after performing a fasciotomy in episode 19.
The night will conclude with Chicago P.D. The preview for season 7 foreshadows big changes in the CPD. Atwater has been investigating the death of the cop. The question is: was he murdered or was the perpetrator acting in self-defense? Atwater and Voight are at the brink of a heated conclusion on the case.
No matter where your fandom in the One Chicago trilogy lies, this is a big challenge for production. Will we be left with plot holes too large with such an abrupt ending or cliffhangers just oblivious enough that we’ll be dreaming of the characters and writing fanfiction until the series resumes? Guaranteed, there will be a lot of action to talk about after Wednesday’s finales beginning at 8/7c. April 9, 2020.
Especially now more than ever, we have to remember the real-life frontline responders in Chicago keeping our neighborhoods safe. Stay inside, be kind, and remember: the sooner we flatten the curve, the sooner One Chicago is back in production.
