In more strategic moves for the Playboy brand, the online magazine will no longer offer its popular Playmate of the Month feature which has run in the magazine since 1953. Instead, the Playmates will now be spotlighted for an entire season, thus changing the format from 12 Playmates a year to just four. (Makes me wish for a do-over!)
In a letter to Playmates, written by Anna Ondaatje and titled “Elevating the role of a Playboy Playmate,” the article says that the move will allow them: “to add more time and depth for each photo shoot and editorial feature; an expanded contribution to Playboy’s new business offerings, including greater creative influence; testing and input into our product lines and consumer offerings from start to finish; and deeper involvement in Playboy’s social good and advocacy work, which we will also be expanding over the course of 2021.”
Playboy stated its digital channels reach nearly 50 million women and men worldwide, with almost 90 % under the age of 44. Its platform is described as “for living a lifestyle of pleasure and advocacy for social justice issues–including anti-racism, cannibis law reform and women’s reproductive rights–crucial to ensuring we create a culture in which all people can pursue pleasure freely.”
Welcome Winter 2021 Playmate is Izabela Guedes, the first Playboy Playmate for a Season.
