I read this quote, “Where flowers bloom, so does hope.” So many people I know have been laid off, and are not sure when they will be back to work. A friend of mine lost her brother-in-law to COVID-19. People are scared; people are sad. People I know say they are drinking every day because of the uncertainty of life. I received news this week I am not starting school as planned because not enough people enrolled in the program. In the big picture of the world, my news doesn’t matter really. I am disappointed; however, I will be fine. It made me think though about the realities we are all facing at this time, the deaths, the losses, and the isolation. We will persevere. We will not let this break us. Tomorrow is another day. I am writing this as a reminder to myself as well to my friends, please take care of yourself.
- Keep your immune system healthy by eating right, exercising and getting enough sleep.
- Practice ways to quiet your mind through meditation or yoga.
- Keep a routine. Even if you don’t need to, get up in the morning, take a shower and get dressed.
- Set some goals, think about hobbies you haven’t done in awhile or the dreams you forgot about and renew them.
- Let yourself feel that anger, sadness, and disappointment through journaling so that you can process and release it.
- Find and focus on those little positive moments in each day.
- Lean in to your loved ones and keep those connections through text, video or phone calls.
If you can’t do them all, just pick one or two to start like me, and remember that this time will come to an end. Please don’t lose hope.
