Spoon has returned with Lucifer On The Sofa, and, so far, SO good! I really need to lean into this record and give it the time it deserves but I’m digging “Feels Alright,” “My Babe,” and “The Hardest Cut.”
My daughters’ favorite singer has returned with “Boyfriend.” Disney’s Dove Cameron shows off her body of art and her vocal prowess, with this sultry new number about a voice in her ear saying, “I could be a better boyfriend than him.” Isn’t that always the promise though?
Joesef caught my ear this week with “It’s Been A Little Heavy Lately.” The vocals are reminiscent of Hippo Campus but the jam enters funkier territory than the alt-rock crew would traverse. Dare I say this is closer to a Justin Timberlake vibe?
So many big releases this week, including the Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio’s Cold As Weiss, named after their new permanent drummer Dan Weiss. Now Delvon Lamarr (organ) and Jimmy James (electric guitar) bring us their third studio album of funky instrumentals and this album is a banger. I can’t wait to see these guys live!
Alfie Templeton is a multi-instrumentalist, producer, and songwriter who has been releasing demos since he was 13. There’s a reason he keeps making the cut each week and showing up on my #RADAR, he has great pop sensibilities, and “Broken” is no exception. This is a fun listen, playlist worthy for an upbeat minute.
Engelwood is killing it lately, especially with “Cruisin!” This is next-level shit, and I’m really enjoying the keyboard vibe. Break on through to the other side, bro!
I wish Kanye would just stay out of the media, as he just continues to tarnish his image with each and every post. “City Of Gods” is a really strong track, and Alicia sounds great! This is my first introduction to Fivio Foreign and I’m liking his immediacy and vocal delivery.
Andy Bell finally releases his second full-length album, Flicker, and it’s a mishmash of 90’s Britpop. The RIDE guitarist and singer continues to impress with incredible guitar work, smooth vocals, and catchy melodies.
Did Blind Melon really need this reverb remix treatment on their classic hit single, “No Rain?” I’m not sure, but it got me thinking about this band that released a few incredible albums back in the ’90s! What a sound they had.
Your Jazz Cut Of The Week is “Sunset Drive” by Saib. Put it on your playlist, and then feel cool when your friend asks, “Who’s the artist behind this low-key, hip-hop, jazz jam? “Oh, it’s Sai-B. He has a new record, Under The Stars, coming out this year (2022)!
