Release Radar 2/19/21 – HAIM vs Taylor Swift
Could there be any way that Taylor Swift makes this HAIM remix of “Gasoline” better? Could she add anything new to it? Actually, yes, it took me by surprise but Taylor rises to the moment and crushes her verse, the second verse. She owns it with her falsetto, and the quick stop that follows, on the line, “You did me bad/I did it back.” It sounds incredible! I love this song, I love this Rostam-produced album, and when they release this extended version on viny, I’m in!

“Re-issue! Re-package! Re-package! Re-evaluate the songs.” It seems Morrissey has taken a cue from himself yet again, releasing a new version of an old cover. The Jam’s “That’s Entertainment” has got a new sheen and I’m a sucker for it.

[embedded content]A few weeks back, on February 5th, to be exact, Rudolph Johnson’s Spring Rain was remastered and released. A gritty jazz classic from 1972 that begs to be heard, and just might be worthy of your collection? Tenor saxophonist Rudolph Johnson is moonlighting with his quartet on your Jazz Cut of The Week.
NOTE: Johnson’s drummer at the time was none other than Ray Pounds, the same drummer who would play on Stevie Wonder‘s Songs in the Key of Life. Now that’s news you can use.
