Shedd Employees Took Their Penguins On a Field Trip While Aquarium is Closed to Visitorson March 16, 2020 at 4:24 pm

We all know and love the penguins at the Shedd Aquarium, but with the museum suddenly closing on March 13 to avoid the spread of coronavirus COVID-19, the lack of visitors has depressed both the staff and its animals. On Sunday, Shedd workers took the penguins out of their habitats and on a field trip of the aquarium, where they came in contact with other animals for the first time.

“Some of the penguins went on a field trip to meet other animals at Shedd. Wellington seemed most interested in the fishes in Amazon Rising! The black-barred silver dollars also seemed interested in their unusual visitor,” said the tweet from the Shedd Aquarium official account.

The goal behind this is to ensure all the animals are maintaining their quality of life without constant visitation. Wellington the rockhopper penguin had a chance to meet the fish in the Amazon Rising exhibit, putting smiles on the faces of the thousands of Twitter users who liked the video.

The Shedd Aquarium plans to remain closed through March 29, but continues to share cute animal videos on their Twitter page for anyone looking for relief from the panic.
