The Chicago Bears lost to the New York Jets by a final score of 31-10. It was the first truly bad Chicago Bears game in a long time. They haven’t won in a while but they have been in a lot of games against good teams.
This was a bad game for the Bears against the Jets and there is a lot of reasons why for that. The biggest reason for that is the fact that Justin Fields didn’t play. He has been making some big plays for a few weeks in a row now and we are seeing just how valuable he is now that he is out.
Justin Fields has been using his legs to give the Bears a chance to win a lot of games. Even though they can’t close and the defense is bad, there is a clear foundation being set by the team. With Fields out, however, it is hard to see any of that.
Before the game, Trevor Siemian was declared to be the starting quarterback for the Bears in Fields’ absence. He hurt himself during warmups and it came out that Nathan Peterman was the guy. Oddly, Siemian came out and played the game anyway.
He did not do very well as expected. The New York Jets are a good team and they shut down Siemians offense with relative ease. Holding them to 10 points is not something that would have happened had the Jets if Fields was under center.
There were some other big injuries sustained by the Bears on Sunday as well. With their roster already depleted the way that it is, losing all these games isn’t very surprising at all.
Next week is Green Bay Packers week for the Chicago Bears once again. That is always going to be a tough match for them even when Green Bay isn’t very good. It will be interesting to see if Fields can come back and play in that game.
If he does play, the Bears will at least have a chance to stay in the game as opposed to getting beaten badly by another bad NFC team. Don’t let Green Bay’s quarterback fool you. They are a bad team too. The Bears just have no chance without Fields and it showed against the Jets on Sunday.
