Southern Illinois scored its second-most points in a single game this season Saturday in Terre Haute, Ind., and earned its seventh win of the season.
National poll voters took little notice Monday, however.
The Salukis (7-3 overall, 5-2 Missouri Valley Football Conference) dropped two spots to No. 17 in the STATS Perform FCS media poll and moved up one spot to No. 15 in the American Football Coaches Association poll.
SIU broke a two-game losing streak Saturday with a 47-21 victory at Indiana State.
Voters in the media poll leapfrogged two MVFC teams ahead of SIU in the poll released Monday afternoon.
South Dakota (7-3) jumped three spots to No. 16 after a last-second win against previous No. 4 South Dakota State. The Coyotes are 5-1 in their last six games, with a home loss to Illinois State (4-6) as the only blemish.
Missouri State (7-3) also leapfrogged the Salukis thanks to a 34-27 win against Northern Iowa. The Bears are 4-1 in the past five games with a 27-20 loss to No. 4 North Dakota State as its only misstep.
SIU is in a third-place tie in the conference with South Dakota and trails Missouri State (6-2) by half a game and NDSU (6-1) by one game.
The Salukis close the regular season at noon Saturday in Carbondale against MVFC foe Youngstown State (2-7, 1-6).
Miller makes his mark
Freshman cornerback David Miller of SIU was honored Sunday evening as the MVFC Defensive Player of the Week.
Miller, a transfer from Navy, grabbed two interceptions and had four tackles in the win at Indiana State.
