Protesters begin streaming into the U.S. Capitol through the historic Columbus Doors on Jan. 6, 2021. (Video Still/U.S. Department of Justice)
If it was a cop, who gave the order?
Videos made available by the defense team of some of those charged for illegally entering the Capitol show that someone from the inside opened the heavy doors to allow the shouting, threatening mob to enter the building.
Supposedly the huge doors could only be opened from inside using a special code only available to the cops. So, did someone order that the doors be opened? Was that someone in authority, or someone who reports to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi who is in charge of Capitol security?
Did a mobster who had entered the building elsewhere somehow figured
out how to crack the code and opened the door? Was he or she given the code?
Did someone inside open the door because there were still some cops left outside, trapped between the mob and getting pepper sprayed. But once the door was opened a crack to let the trapped cops in, the press of the mob prevented the door from being closed?
An interesting side note: What did most of the people who walked through the now-opened door do? Those who are visible inside mostly just milled around, peacefully taking pictures with their smart phone and looking puzzled about what if anything they should do next. Others can be seen peacefully leaving.
Obviously some didn’t stay long in the Rotunda, but went elsewhere in the building to cause mischief or worse.
All the more reason for more of the footage being withheld from public viewing be released.
