A woman in her 80s was found dead in a Edgewater Beach high-rise Tuesday morning after a fire broke out on her kitchen stove, according to police.
Crews were called to a blaze about 9:20 a.m. at a 15-story building in the 5200 block of North Kenmore Avenue, according to Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Merritt.
A woman was found on her living room floor, and was pronounced dead with her service dog, Chicago police said in a media notification.
A fire on the seventh floor was extinguished by 10 a.m., Merritt said.
Police said other apartments on the same floor had water damage.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office hasn’t released details about the fatality.
